Surrounding area

Gestaco lies in the north of Portugal, 85 kilometers from Porto and is within an hour,s drive from the airport. The village is in the provence of Baiao, a mountainous wooded area with several nature reserves. If you are looking for an exciting night life it is not here. De "Quinta" is an estate of 2.6 ha and counts 11,000 square meters of vineyards . Eucalyptus, oak,fig, lemon, palm and orange trees grow freely and easily here and many wild plants. A herb garden is situated between the vines where a selection of herbs grow such as mint kervel and bay leaves.

Peace, quiet and nature
Being awakened in the morning to the many different birds singing is a special experience for the bird lovers.

The view from the estate is to the village of Mesao Frio where you can find shops restaurants and banks. No tourist attractions, only the normal Portuguese life can be observed There is a good, very clean public swimming pool and a stream with a picnic area, which is very pleasant and the water comes straight from the mountains into the stream. Once a week on Friday is the local market where fresh fish, vegetables, poultry and clothing can be bought.

De Douro Valley
The Douro Valley is 4 kilometers away along a beautiful route, a great way to enjoy the area. The valley is well-known for its, delicious wines and port, such as vinho verde (green wine). There is a special car trip through the ROTA DOS VINHOS which gives a great opportunity to get to know the local wines.

Pilgrimage places
From Gestaco you can make a trip to Lamego a place for pilgrims known for its holy dome with two towers, built in baroque style with 600 stairs. Another pilgrimage place is Braga, also known for its, beautiful football stadium, built between the rocks overlooking the town. Football fans will surely know it from the European Cup of 2004 which took place in Portugal Another fine day trip is to Porto by car or train. Porto lies at the mouth of the Douro and has an old harbor with many port houses. Also known for its, double bridge and marvelous shopping streets, all in all a very lively town. If you are a real port lover go to Peso da Regua where several boot trips are made to the wonderful port houses in the area.

The romantic town of Amarante
Amarante about 25km from the estate is an extremely romantic place on the banks of the Tamega with a fine roman bridge and also a beach. There are many places to visit so no way to get bored.
